India as a close friend and neighbor will continue to support the government and the people of Sri Lanka to pursue its national goals, said India Sri Lanka to salute its 69th Independence Day.

The President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, conveyed greetings and congratulations to the Government and people of Sri Lanka on the eve of the 69th anniversary of independence on 4 February, 2017.

"On behalf of the Government, the people of India and on my own behalf, I very much congratulate Your Excellency and the people of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka on the 69th anniversary of their independence," said President Mukherjee in a message addressed to the President of Sri Lanka Maithripala Sirisena.
